I was lucky enough to be in the first PHYSICIAN CEO™ class, finishing in the fall of 2015.  The PCEO program was quite simply the most important and valuable educational experience of my 27 year ophthalmology career.  I have a solo refractive and cataract practice, and was struggling to perform as a CEO.  PCEO gave me both the perspective shift and tools to plan and execute the growth of my business.  Perhaps the most important change for me is the improvement in my leadership skills, and these are reflected in quantum improvement in both quality and quantity of what we produce.  I also learned extremely useful skills including negotiation, marketing and branding, finance, presentation techniques, practice valuation, and many others.  My classmates were stellar and substantially added value to the experience, both during and after the program.

What about the bottom line tangible results of the program?  The numbers tell: 2016 ytd vs 2015: LASIK and related procedures up 20%, Premium cataracts up 35%, gross income up 20% with up the key metric, net income, up even more.  These are in spite of a substantial investment in re-branding my practice, as well as a large increase in marketing expenses per se.  I have a clear, and clearly communicated, growth plan that we are executing over the next several years.  The PCEO course paid for itself with a single negotiation on a large capital purchase after the first module, and has continued to yield dividends.  It is the single best investment in money and time I have ever made.
